Biography of Richard Scott
Richard Scott is a retired editor, writer, and publisher, having been with the David McKay Company, Fodor’s Travel Publications, and Bantam Doubleday Dell.
In the 70s, with Isaac Asimov, Nat Hentoff and Brendan Gill, he co-hosted a talk show called In Conversation on WOR in New York. Richard is a former trustee of the Salem Athenæum and has been a trustee of Historic Salem, Inc. Currently, when he’s not painting or shooting photos, he works on his web site www.salemfocus.com. He lives in Salem, MA.
In the last few years he’s been active as a photographer and until recently concentrated on that medium. Prior to that, he painted with oils, acrylics and watercolors. Richard took one course in drawing in college, but aside from that he is self taught. Now he’s discovered a new medium: Digital Painting. He paints with a stylus on a Wacom tablet attached to his iMac. He uses software called ArtRage, which allows the stylus to behave as if it were a brush. Colors are mixed on the tablet as if they were real paint. Richard stresses that this is NOT Photoshopping a photo. This is painting on a computer screen instead of on canvas. Richard has exhibited with the Salem Art Association, Art Salem and at the Front Street Coffeehouse in Salem.
